A Speaker who will replace a scheduled Speaker on the agenda, in case of unplanned absence.
From time to time, a scheduled speaker may fail to attend the meeting: they may be held up in traffic, they may be unexpectedly ill, or they may be detained with a pressing work issue. A Reserve Speaker will enable you to keep your meeting running smoothly despite.
- Have members identified who can step in to deliver a speech project from the Communication Track of the Toastmasters Educational Program. (Some clubs list one or two Reserve Speakers on each agenda.)
- Have experienced members always ready with an Educational Speech (from the Better Speaker Series, Successful Club Series, or Leadership Excellence Series).
- Nominate experienced members to deliver an Impromptu Speech (perhaps 3-5 minutes) related to the Meeting's Themes.
Also, have your Vice President Education or the member’s Mentor follow up with the absent member—just in case they need some help!
